Johnny Rogers, born in Jackson, Tennesse has been doing Buddy Holly and Elvis and Johnny Cash music since he was 16 years of age. His dad, a Chicago DJ and music promoter, got young Johnny started in show biz at a young age. Rogers, who is now 42, is a cousin to Elvis on his mother’s side. He said, growing up, his mom and dad and a lot of folks would join in country singing at their home in Tennessee and it was a musical family all around, with folks like Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs dropping in. Rogers tells the Rockland County Times he will be doing some Elvis Friday night, when he takes the WBT stage with his version of Buddy Holly and the Crickets, who also made rock n’ roll musical history in the 50s. Rogers is coming to the Westchester Broadway Theatre after doing three sold out shows in Vernon, Seymour and Wichita Falls, Texas where he said he received enthusiastic standing ovations. Rogers was turned on to doing Buddy Holly after hearing Buddy’s recording of ”Rave On.” “I was hooked and am still a great Buddy Holly fan but I have other projects in the works, including a possible television show featuring musical greats and interviews, a new CD called ‘Great White Stetson Hat’ and projects with the Sony and Atlantic. I have been doing Holly and Johnny Cash and Elvis for many years – 26-years in fact – and now it’s time for the Johnny Rogers show, which will be the name of the TV program that is in the works,” he said.
